Ayrton Senna Damon Hill After six years, and three Formula One World Championships, with the McLaren team, Ayrton Senna joined Williams in 1994, hoping a move to the world-beating Renault-powered team would bring him another title. It should have been the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the Brazilian legends career. Tragically, Senna would lose his life in only his third race with Williams. His death rocked the sport and left Damon Hill carrying the hopes of Williams as it struggled in the aftermath of Senna?s loss. The son of two-times World Champion Graham Hill rose to meet the challenge, only losing the title at the final round after a highly controversial move by eventual victor Michael Schumacher. This evocative photograph, from the archives of LAT, shows Senna experiencing the Williams FW16 for the first time, at the dawn of what should have been an amazing partnership. Hill appears to be hanging on his every word as the ?master? seemingly shares his great knowledge.
