Bike GP 1988 - Holland Duke Archive DVD FIM World Road Racing Championships 1988 ? Round 8, the Dutch Grand Prix Halfway through this year's championship and Wayne Gardner (and Rothmans Honda) is without a win to his credit! Gardner has been plagued all year with niggling injury and mechanical maladies - which have combined to frustrate his every move to regain the title. Eddie Lawson (Marlboro Yamaha), on the other hand, has suffered no such inconveniences, and held a healthy 28 point lead over Wayne Rainey (Yamaha) with Gardner a further 12 points in arrears as they came to Assen. Surely the time had come for Gardner's fortune to come good? The 250cc class was to provide the scrap of the day, both on and off the track! Sito Pons and Dominique Sarron battled throughout the 18 lap race, until the last corner of the last lap! Judge for yourself who was to blame for the decisive incident, shown here from at least three different camera locations. Juan Garrigo (Yamaha) took full advantage of the melee, to become the first rider this year to win more than one round, so close is the title chase! The massive Dutch crowd had come to see Egbert Streuer win round 4 of the sidecar championship on the same day that their countrymen were winning football?s European Cup Final! Both he and Britain's Steve Webster wondered if either of them could manage to claw back the speed deficit to speedy Swiss Rolf Biland, who, with partner Kurt Waltisberg, had won all the sidecar rounds so far this year on the LCR Krauser outfit. Biland was again successful, but not before a glorious three-way scrap with his two closest rivals. Can anyone beat Rocket Rolf, or will he go through the season unbeaten? ?Videovision brings you Grand Prix racing at its very best from the friendly Dutch TT. Where else would you see a 'Mexican wave' that rippled round the near four mile circuit!
