In 1972 it was acquired by Les Williams of Coventry, a Triumph race engineer, who has maintained it and been its entrant since that time. Its nickname was due to a malfuntioning oil pump in a Continental event which plastered the machine with oil. In 1975 Alex George lapped the Isle of Man TT Circuit on Slippery Sam at 102.82 mph.
